As of April 1, 2018, under Act LXV of 2001 on the Protection of Cultural Heritage, preventive archaeological tasks preceding large-scale investments are coordinated by the Hungarian National Museum. Through its activities, it facilitates communication, contracting, and compliance of deadlines between investors and county museums. It also coordinates excavation scheduling, available activity and capacity, concealment options based on construction plans and provides capacity for other museums when needed.

The following earthworks, interventions, development and investments are considered to be Large-scale Investments according to the Act LXV of 2001, Section 7, Point 20:
- the total cost of the investment exceeds HUF 500 million
- The Investment managed by the National Infrastructure Development Co. Ltd.
- ramparts, embankments and spillways and spillway reservoirs larger than 2500 hectares, or
- investment in the public interest which carried out in accordance with the law on expropriation
GENERAL INFORMATION
- The investor informs the Hungarian National Museum of his intention to conclude a contract related to the preventive archaeological excavation by sending an email to koordinacio.rogmnm@hnm.hu
- Afterwards the Hungarian National Museum informs the relevant county museum (Budapest History Museum in Budapest) about the large-scale investment in 5 days (Kötv.23 / E. (2))
- The Hungarian National Museum in its coordinating role, provides professional assistance during the contracting process and, and provides archaeological capacity if requested by a county museum.
- The investor has to make available the following documents to the museum in accordance of Government Decree No, 68/2018. (IV.9.) Section 31:
- data suitable for identifying and calculating the concerned areas
- plan of the investment, the track of the existing and planned utilities
- investment foundation plans
- technical description of underground works
- landscaping data
- expected date of the beginning of construction
- a statement about the investment qualifying as a large-scale investment (except Act LXV of 2001 Section 7 (20) (c))
- a statement of the estimated total cost of the large-scale investment, and
- construction permit for the investment, if available.
- The authorized institution shall conclude a contract with the investor within 15 days of the complete availability of the above data (Section 41 (2) of Government Decree 68/2018. (IV.9.))

- Send a copy of the contract to the Hungarian National Museum (1113 Budapest, Daróczi út 3.)
- If the contractor does not conclude a contract for preventive archaeological excavation, the Hungarian National Museum will conclude a contract with the investor within 10 days, and will notify the Minister and the Minister of Culture in writing (Government Decree No. 68/2018. (IV.9.) Section 42.)
