E-RIHS is a research network involving 20 countries to support research to enhance the interpretation, preservation, documentation and management of our cultural heritage.

Lack of communication, isolation and duplication of similar infrastructures among European research infrastructures reduces the competitiveness of these infrastructures. Europe has a strong tradition of integrating science and innovation through EU-funded projects, such as EU-ARTECH, CHARISMA and IPERION CH in the field of heritage sciences (mainly conservation, restoration) or ARIADNE in archeology.

The research network includes the E-RIHS center and national nodes, fixed and mobile infrastructures, physically accessible archives and virtually accessible databases. E-RIHS thus integrates European interdisciplinary research institutions that play a leading role in the protection and research of cultural heritage. In this way, E-RIHS provides integrated access to the research infrastructures, tools, repositories and databases of European institutions. Therefore researchers from these institutions are being involved in the interpretation of the results.

E-RIHS provides access to infrastructures across four platforms:
E-RIHS ARCHLAB (access to repositories)
E-RIHS DIGILAB (access to digital archives)
E-RIHS FIXLAB (access to medium and large infrastructures)
E-RIHS MOLAB (mobile lab access)

In the project preparing for the construction of the infrastructure network at a later stage, Hungary is represented by the E-RIHS.hu consortium led by Atomki Institute for Nuclear Research. Other members are the Centre for Energy Research, the Wigner Research Centre for Physics and the Hungarian National Museum.
