ARIADNE was an FP7 project running between 2013 and 2017, funded by the European Commission. It aimed at integrating archaeological data infrastructures across Europe so that researchers could use a variety of distributed datasets and new technologies to explore research methods.

The main objective of the program was to stimulate new research opportunities in the field of archeology, relying on comparison, use, and integration into existing research, building on the results of field and laboratory activities.

Before 2013, when ARIADNE was launched, there was no system that could cross borders and languages. Several approaches and initiatives existed separatel from each other, leaving researchers a wasting a lot of of time on collecting data.

ARIADNE’s long-term goal was to enable researchers to have transnational access to tools, guidelines and data centers by creating a web service based on new, innovative technologies.

The Hungarian National Museum participated in the project and then continued its activities in the new edition of ARIADNE, ARIADNEPlus.
