Szitizens visiting the Museum Quarter on the Sziget will have the opportunity to jointly remember the events of the European Revolutionary War of 1848, the so-called "Spring of Nations” in the tent of the Hungarian National Museum (HNM). 170 years ago, in the spring of 1848, except for England and Russia, revolutions started one after another as a "chain reaction" in countries where people visiting the Sziget today typically come from. Through various games and activities, the role of the National Museum in the 1848 Hungarian events will be higlighted and also the fact that the museum still preserves hundreds of memories that convey the spirit and momentum of the revolutionary era to our present and future.
The HNM tent is open for visitors between 1 pm and 8 pm in the Museum Quarter. There Szitizens can spin the revolutionary wheel of fortune and get to know some iconic and outstanding women from the 19th century. With the help of a special map made by the museum colleagues they can discover the number of revolutionary places in Europe. Being dressed as a national hero, visitors can recite our National Song in their own language, and by playing a giant board game they can get acquainted with the adventurous lives of some political refugees after the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848-49. By taking a quiz they can find out which personality of the revolutionary period they resemble the most. Szitizens can also be curators for one day, they can create the freedom symbol of their own country and put it on the tent wall. They can paint the symbols of revolution and freedom on themselves, and make their own fans or cocktails. Additionally, every day between 2pm and 3 pm visitors of the festival will have the chance to win special canvas totes exclusively designed for the Sziget. The exhibitions of the Hungarian National Museum can be visited for free with a valid daily or weekly Sziget armband in August and for a half price with a Citypass between 4th-6th August.
