In the Bronze Age (2800–800 BCE), the basis of economies was the new metal itself (an alloy of copper and tin), knowledge of the new metalworking techniques (bronze casting) and the gradual spreading of them, soil cultivation, and animal husbandry. Bronze made the accumulation of wealth easier, and tools – especially weapons – made from the alloy represented power and riches for their owners. All this is well mirrored in the structure of Bronze Age settlements and cemeteries, by way of outstandingly beautiful artefacts from the everyday lives of the people. Distinctive and special finds such as clay idols, altars, and depictions of people and animals afford a glimpse into the complex belief system of communities at this time.
