
GANDHI@150
Born on 2 October 1869, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi took the name Mahatma Gandhi and become not only the ‘Father of the Nation’ in modern India but one of the most famous politicians inspiring millions around the world.
In honour of the 150th anniversary of Gandhi’s birth, the Government of India embarked on a series of celebratory commemorations in 2018, which ended on 2 October 2020, the 151st anniversary of Gandhi’s birthday.
As part of this, several events were held around the world: photo exhibitions, tree planting, khadi exhibition, bike races, vegetarian food festival, statue unveiling, issue of stamps depicting Gandhi, conferences, scientific dialogues and concerts celebrating Gandhi’s birth.
The virtual exhibition Gandhi@150 fits into this series of celebrations, born as a result of the cooperation between the Hungarian National Museum and the Embassy of India - Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre.
