Everyone knows her, yet for four centuries we have been unable to unravel her secret... In a superstitious world torn by religious war, where did the line between credulity and lust for power lie? For a sneak peek into the mysterious chamber of a buttercup woman 400 years ago, and to uncover what the lords cooked up against the rich women, come to the live museum!

In the shadow of the glorious padisah - a Golden Age come to life

Mysteries from the past: secrets of everyday life in the Turkish world.

Mysteries of the apothecary's wife, the baker's wife and Catherine of Brandenburg's frauzimmere. In the Hungarian National Museum, the Hungarian history of the Turkish occupation comes to life.

The Living Museum programme brings to life the lives of people from the period, who, together with the guides, take visitors on a tour of the everyday life of the country, which was divided into three parts.

Centuries through women's eyes I

What is the story of a woman's crown or a vibrating one? What does a wedding dress say about its wearer, and what does a tablecloth say about its maker? In the Living Museum programme, we focus on women who made a difference in the male-dominated Middle Ages and early modern times.

Centuries through women's eyes II

What role did a woman play in the family? Could they marry for love? What does a black mourning dress, a photograph or a room interior tell us? In this living museum programme, we focus on women whose activities during the "long 19th century" and the "short 20th century" made them stand out in a male-dominated world.

From Travelling Actresses to Movie Stars

"There is something wonderful about these moving images that crawl like bugs on a white wall. The first time I saw them in Nice, I was amazed, astonished at what the diabolical photographic machine could do...", Mór Jókai once wrote about the new medium of the 20th century, film. As quickly as silent film conquered, sound film spread in Hungary in the 1930s. The real stars of these films were often actresses. Every actress has a secret. Who was Ferenc Molnár's greatest love? What story does an actress' tombstone tell? Which famous Hungarian actress sent home a hat to replace herself after the Second World War? The live museum programme will introduce you to the secrets of the beginnings of Hungarian filmmaking and the mysteries of the lives of famous Hungarian actresses.
