MORE ABOUT THE VIRTUAL EXHIBITION>

The Hungarian National Museum Mátyás Király Museum is a member of the 4iG Nyrt. The National Museum of Hungary, in collaboration with the Mensor 3D division of 4iG.G.M., has created a virtually accessible digital replica of the Visegrád Royal Palace, the most complete surviving residence of the late medieval Hungarian kings Robert Charles, Louis the Great, Sigismund of Luxembourg and Matthias Hunyadi.

The Visegrád Royal Palace was built by the 14th century Hungarian Angevin rulers Charles I and Louis I in Visegrád, the seat of their dynasty. The vast palace, which stood at the foot of the Castle Hill on the banks of the Danube, was luxuriously furnished with ornate tiled stoves and the courtyards and gardens were adorned with magnificent Gothic fountains. In the early 15th century, King Sigismund had a Franciscan monastery built next to the palace. In the 1470s-80s, King Matthias converted the complex into a country residence, which he had rebuilt in late Gothic and Renaissance styles. He had new fountains, loggias, oriels, stoves, façades, halls, courtyards and gardens restored with the help of local artists and artists from Italy. A visiting Italian ambassador described the magnificent building as 'paradise on earth'. The ruins of the palace, which fell into ruins during the Turkish wars and was demolished in the 18th century, were only unearthed in 1934 and have been excavated and restored ever since.

The MNM King Matthias Museum is a subsidiary of 4iG Plc. In cooperation with the Mensor 3D division of the 4iG Group, the Mátyag King Matthias Museum has created and digitally made accessible a virtually reconstructed replica of the Visegrád Royal Palace using the latest NavVis 3D laser scanner technology. The virtual exhibition provides visitors with detailed information about the history of the palace and the exhibits. You can see reconstructions of the medieval royal residence and photos of the excavations. You can also watch videos showing the history of Visegrad, the restoration of the palace and the traditional events held there.
