Born on 2 October 1869, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi took the name Mahatma Gandhi and became India's 'Father of the Nation' and one of the world's best-known politicians of the 20th century, inspiring millions of people around the world with his ideas.
To honour the 150th anniversary of Gandhi's birth, the Government of India began a series of commemorations in 2018, which will conclude on the 151st anniversary of Gandhi's birth on 2 October 2020.
As part of the celebrations, a series of events were held around the world: photo exhibitions, tree planting, a Khadi exhibition, cycling races, a vegetarian food festival, a statue unveiling, the release of Gandhi stamps, conferences, academic dialogues and concerts to mark the anniversary of Gandhi's birth.
The virtual exhibition now on display is part of a series of events called Gandhi@150, a collaboration between the Hungarian National Museum and the Embassy of India - Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre.
