Light in the night

This compilation shows Budapest at night through photographs taken in the first decades of photography without artificial light. Thanks to the development of technology in the early 20th century and the birth of faster film and portable cameras, we can get a glimpse of the changes in the capital's lights, from gas lamps to decorative lighting, fireworks and blackouts. The original gelatine silver photographs and glass negatives in this collection are kept in the Historical Photographic Collection of the Hungarian National Museum. The exhibition is curated by Emőke Tomsics.
