Hungary's oldest archaeological site, dating back some 400,000 years, has been excavated in the Vértesszőlős lime mine. The open-air exhibition space of the Hungarian National Museum presents the unique archaeological, anthropological and paleontological remains and their formation environment. The two excavated and displayed sites, with their millions of stone tools, fat-boned hearths, bones of hunted animals, human milk teeth and a occipital bone, offer a unique picture of the life of early man, the so-called Heidelberg type. Leaf and crop prints known from the mine and the preserved footprints of animals gathered at the former muddy watering and feeding place give a picture of the natural environment.

MÁV provides free travel for students visiting museums in rural schools. To purchase a ticket, a certificate is required, which is issued by the museum based on the information provided by the school.

The Vértesszőlő Archaeological Site is a Dog Friendly Site as of 1 April 2015. We welcome visitors with dogs. Leash and bag are obligatory. Fresh water is provided.

Those who visit the museum on the 26th Saturday of the month will be admitted on the 26th Saturday of the month. (26 years of age or younger) and accompanying a person under 18 years of age and his/her close relatives (up to 2 persons) according to the Civil Code (hereinafter referred to as the Civil Code). Decree No. 194/2000 of the Hungarian National Museum of Vértesszőlős on discounts for visitors to museums (§ 2 (2) a) and b).
In the Vértesszőlős Exhibition Hall of the Hungarian National Museum it is possible to pay by credit card and SZÉP card.
Sallas.hu offers a 15% discount on the price of admission.
From 1 April 2018, the Exhibition Centre will accept a Szallas.hu discount coupon, which offers a 15% discount on the price of admission, which is 680.-Ft/person.
The Exhibition Grounds will accept Hungarycard from 1 April 2020.
