Restructuring in the Hungarian National Museum

The fixed-term assignment of the Director General of the Hungarian National Museum terminates by 30 June 2021 as head of the institution. Structural reforms of the museum and the general remodelling of the museum sector are starting on 15 April 2021, with the appointment of ministerial commissioner László L. Simon, responsible for preparing the reform of the Hungarian National Museum and museum integration. Current Director General Benedek Varga is also going to actively participate in the process.

For the past five years, Benedek Varga has been in charge of the museum with dedication, outstanding efficiency and professionalism, meeting the requirements of our age. He has promoted the smooth and continuous operation of the institution, served the public with innovations and online contents introduced during the pandemic. The Ministry of Human Capacities expresses its appreciation and gratitude for his efforts. Following the expiration of his mandate, Benedek Varga is to function as acting Director General of the museum.
