The Estate Collection was established in 1987, primarily to preserve, process, and make accessible for research the intellectual legacy of former researchers of the Hungarian National Museum and other Hungarian archaeologists. The collection contains the scholarly and personal papers of numerous renowned archaeologists, including János Érdy, Flóris Rómer, István Dienes, Nándor Fettich, László Vértes, and Amália Mozsolics, all of which are available for research. These personal legacies reflect the diversity of human lives, a richness that is mirrored in the wide variety of documents preserved in the collection. Gaining insight into the personal and professional profiles of scholars and researchers is only possible if the collection is continuously enriched through new bequests. The holdings currently comprise nearly 5,000 items.
