1097 Budapest, Fék utca 6.

The Hungarian National Museum's permanent exhibition space "The pits of hell... "Málenkij robot" - Forced labour in the Soviet Union", opening in 2017, commemorates the mass deportation of women and men after the Second World War. The bunker next to Ferencváros railway station, which houses the exhibition, was once an air-raid shelter and command post for the Hungarian State Railways.

Hungary was not allowed to breathe a sigh of relief after the German invasion in 1944 and the Arrow Cross regime. After the devastation of the war, which affected millions, the Soviet Red Army put the population through another ordeal. In the World War and afterwards, hundreds of thousands of Hungarian civilians were taken prisoner by the Soviet Union and were evacuated to the Soviet Union. After the Red Army arrived in Hungary, prisoner of war camps were set up in their wake, from which the prisoners were constantly being wagoned in and then transported to various parts of the Soviet Union, to the 'Malenky robot'.

Through photographs, posters, memoirs and objects from survivors, the exhibition presents the final days of the Second World War in Hungary, the bitter daily life of those who were taken away to forced labour and the bittersweet moments of returning home.

Please note that the bunker building is not accessible!
