Hungary’s largest museum festival returns to the Hungarian National Museum for a weekend on 16 and 17 May 2026.
This year’s International Museum Day, organised by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), carries the motto: Museums connect a divided world. In keeping with this theme, the event aims to create a cultural meeting place for visitors, museums, and museum professionals alike. Participating institutions will demonstrate how museums can become genuine points of connection — spaces where the experiences of the past help us navigate the questions of the present, and where we can reflect together on the future. One of the principal aims of the Museums’ May Festival is to show that museums are not merely exhibition venues, but vibrant community spaces that bring us together through our shared histories, memories, and values.
Over the course of the two days, visitors can enjoy
a diverse array of programmes,
interactive presentations,
guided tours and discussions,
programmes for families, and
shared community experiences.
Join us once again at the Museums’ May Festival and discover how culture can become a source of understanding and cooperation.
