The longest period in the story of mankind in Hungary is the Old Stone Age, or Palaeolithic period: it began approximately 400,000 years ago and ended 10,000 years ago. During this time, the non-living and living environment, mankind included, underwent changes as the climate repeatedly cooled and warmed. In this room, visitors may get to know the various bone implements and knapped stone tools excavated at camps periodically used by hunters. With the end of the Old Stone Age, stone-knapping traditions lived on for approximately 3000 years in the geological present, up to approximately 7000 BCE (the end of the Mesolithic Age).
