Life at the museum

Bewitched by Beethoven |

Ludwig van Beethoven received from the Broadwood piano factory a piano which the composer used until his death. After his passing, the instrument came into the possession of a Viennese art dealer and was later acquired by Ferenc Liszt. He was the one to donate this relic to the Hungarian National Museum, along with others of his most prized possessions.

With the Kismarton Trio, on this summer eve we’ll commemorate the world famous classic composer with the aid of this special piano and with musical works, which are all linked to Beethoven is some way.
The first piece of the concert, which follows the tradition of these renades, is one of Beethoven’s early works, which brought him international fame. The count Rasumoffsky from the title of György Orbán’s composition was Beethoven’s great patron during his ambassadorial service in Vienna.

Become attuned to this concert by participating in a guided tour of the Museum’s baroque rooms and those from the hungarian age of reforms. Your guide will tell you the story of the baryton which once belonged to Prince Nikolaus Esterházy (surnamed „the Magnificent”), but you’ll also hear about Mozart’s clavicord and you’ll be able to admire Beethoven’s piano. The guided tour in Hungarian language begins at 17:30, departing from the Rotunda.
