Orders, decorations and badges

This is a collection of Hungarian and foreign decorations and orders which comprises more than 2,500 items. Approximately half of the material consists of Hungarian-related orders and decorations from the Habsburg period and the 20th century, forming an almost complete overview of these categories. The other half is made up of foreign decorations, grouped by country. Many of these were originally awarded to Hungarian individuals—politicians, diplomats, military officers, or artists—and later entered the museum through donation.

The badge collection, numbering over 20,000 items, began to take shape around the turn of the 20th century. Predominantly Hungarian in focus, the material dates mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries. Its most significant groups include political badges, First World War badges, Red Cross badges, choir and choral society badges, school badges, as well as “excellent worker” and long-service badges associated with the socialist period. In addition, the collection contains badges related to various social movements and associations.
